Since then, through dedicated passion and effort, Quinta Vale D. Maria has been at the forefront of producing unique wines that mirror the essence of the Douro. The brand philosophy of Quinta Vale D. Maria revolves around dedication and passion. Therefore, each bottling is a unique moment, and each Quinta Vale D. Maria wine reflects the intrinsic characteristics of its terroir.

Vinhas Velhas:

At the heart of Quinta Vale D. Maria lies a 10-hectare vineyard, spanning from the highest to the lowest point of the property. With over 60 years of age, this vineyard hosts 41 distinct grape varieties, including Rufete, Tinta Amarela, Tinta Francisca, Sousão, Touriga Franca, Touriga Nacional, and Tinta Roriz.

This vineyard is the origin of Quinta Vale D. Maria Vinhas Velhas Douro red wine, a wine that has consistently garnered recognition from national and international magazines and critics over the years. In 2023, it stood out as the best wine of the Douro at the prestigious New York International Wine Competition, with the 2019 vintage scoring 96 points and earning the Double Gold medal. Additionally, at the Decanter World Wine Awards, it solidified its quality with the same vintage, achieving 95 points and the distinction of a Gold Medal, making Quinta Vale D. Maria Vinhas Velhas Douro red one of the top 5 wines of the Douro.

Vinha da Francisca:

Vinha da Francisca, the youngest vineyard at Quinta Vale D. Maria, was planted in 2004, the year Francisca van Zeller turned 18. Situated at two altitudes, approximately 190 meters and 230 meters high, with South and Southeast exposures, Vinha da Francisca covers 4 hectares. The chosen grape varieties, Sousão, Touriga Franca, Touriga Nacional, Rufete, and Tinta Francisca, were selected for their ability to create fresh and full-bodied wines.

The quality of this wine has been consistently acknowledged by specialized magazines and critics. The 2015, 2019, and 2020 vintages were rated by Mark Squires for Robert Parker’s magazine with 95 points. In Portugal, this wine was awarded Best Wine of the Year at the Concurso De Vinhos de Portugal for two consecutive editions. Its latest harvest in 2020 was also honored with 97 points by Revista de Vinhos, reinforcing its excellence and unique profile over the years.

Vinha de Martim:

Slowly rewriting the history of the Martim vineyard, a very unique vineyard with less than 1 hectare and over 80 years of history, giving rise to the grape varieties that make up Vale D. Maria Vinha de Martim. Bottled for the first time in the 2015 harvest, the result reflects the Douro’s ability to produce extremely fresh white wines. In 2023, Vale D. Maria Vinha de Martim stood out as one of the top white wines of the Douro at the Sommeliers Choice Awards, with the 2020 vintage.

Vinha do Rio:

This old vineyard is planted near the Rio Torto that flows at the foot of the Quinta, where the vines can easily find water. Being in the lower part of the Rio Torto valley and with this being a small and winding river, Vinha do Rio ends up having fewer hours of direct sunlight, allowing for a slower and more balanced maturation throughout the cycle, as well as a greater ability to maintain acidity. With a south exposure ensuring good tannin maturation, the 29 grape varieties planted in Vinha do Rio find a unique terroir to thrive.

Repeatedly awarded, the 2020 harvest of Quinta Vale D. Maria Vinha do Rio was honored with 95 points by Revista de Vinhos, thus reinforcing the consistent quality of this wine over the years.

Fruit of the dedicated and specialized work of the Viticulture and Oenology teams, Quinta Vale D. Maria wines mirror the essence of the Douro. Share unique experiences with Quinta Vale D. Maria wines.
