Vinha do Rio
Vinha do Rio is one of the centenary vineyards of Quinta Vale D. Maria. In an exceptional location, this old vine is planted near the Rio Torto that runs at the foot of the Quinta, where the vines can find water more easily. Because it is in the lower part of the Rio Torto valley, and because this is a small and winding river, Vinha do Rio ends up having fewer hours of direct sun, allowing for a slower and more balanced maturation throughout the cycle, as well as a greater ability to preserve acidity. With an exposure to the south that guarantees a good maturation of the tannins, the 29 varieties, including Tinta Barroca, planted in Vinha do Rio, find a unique terroir to develop. When the grapes, born here, enter the press and start their fermentation, the aromas that fill the cellar and the color that paints the press stand out.
