Superior Range

Just like Queen Maria I, who allowed the navigability of the river towards the Douro Superior, we ventured upstream on the Douro and attempted to recreate this journey in this range.

Among the three regions of the Douro Valley (Baixo Corgo, Cima Corgo, and Douro Superior), the Douro Superior stands out as the most remote and particular, due to its inland characteristics, geology, and significant microclimatic variation depending on the altitude of its steep and winding slopes.

In the history of Douro Superior wines, there is a before and after the demolition of the Cachão da Valeira, ordered by Queen Maria I, as it was this work that opened the upper course of the Douro River to navigation, making the region more accessible and thus encouraging investment in vineyards, wines, and spirits in the area.

It is here, in this unique landscape, painted with earthy colors and surrounded by tall cypress trees, that Quinta Vale do Sabor is located, producing the ideal wines to introduce you to the Quinta Vale D. Maria brand.
