The first known records of Quinta Vale D. Maria date back to 1868. They show and prove that this is an estate with a long history. Its age, the terroir, and the vineyards, where we find vines over 80 years old, are a substantial part of its identity.

The journey to Quinta Vale D. Maria is an unforgettable one along the 222 Road, one of the most beautiful in the world, where the River Douro winds alongside, meandering between hills and vineyards. Each curve reveals breathtaking landscapes, guiding us to the heart of a unique terroir, immersed in the tranquillityof the Douro. Across the total of 30 hectares that make up Quinta Vale D. Maria, approximately 16.5ha are old vineyards, each with its own distinct character and resulting from what is most special about the Douro: vines planted in high density, grape varieties mixed together in the field, resulting in a combination that is as random as it is intentional. Most of these old vineyards are spread around the core, which is made up of the winery and the house.

The schist soils are also part of the essence of this unique and unrepeatable terroir, whose richness is exonerated by the biodiversity that exists there.
