Quinta
Vale do Sabor
In the heart of the Douro Superior, the most interior and remote of the three geographical regions of the great Douro Valley, lies the Quinta Vale do Sabor, whose slopes overlook the river that bears its name, with the Douro close by.
The imposing gate and the sentinel cypress trees, signature features of the Quinta, invite you to enter. All around, a landscape shaped by ancient treasures, some on display, others hidden, like the millennia-old engravings submerged by the reservoir waters. Overhead, griffon vultures and wood pigeons soar freely.
And all this deserves contemplation, with a glass in hand on the grand terrace overlooking the vast landscape. This is exactly what the wine tourism experiences at Quinta Vale do Sabor offer, opening its doors to a slice of paradise.
Experiences
At this idyllic estate, you can taste and purchase wines produced in the world’s oldest demarcated wine region, all while enjoying the stunning views over the vineyard.
Douro Superior Tasting
An adventure upstream on the Douro, recalling Queen Maria I’s order to demolish the Valeira dam, which allowed the river to become navigable from its mouth to the Douro Superior. In this tasting, participants are invited to enjoy a white wine and a red wine from the Douro Superior, along with a Port wine. The Vale D. Maria Douro Superior White and Vale D. Maria Douro Superior Red are excellent introductions to the universe of Quinta Vale D. Maria. Meanwhile, the Quinta Vale D. Maria Reserva Port is the perfect showcase of the Port wines produced at the estate.

Vinhas do Sabor Tasting
This tasting highlights some of the key characteristics of the Douro Superior vineyards, beautifully expressed in several wines from Quinta Vale do Sabor. Guests will sample the Vale D. Maria Vinhas do Sabor White and Vale D. Maria Vinhas do Sabor Red, which reflect the distinctive character of this sub-region and showcase the complexity and freshness typical of the Douro Superior. The experience also includes a tasting of the Quinta Vale D. Maria Porto LBV, reminiscent of a vintage with some evolution.

Vertical Vintage Porto Tasting
What distinguishes a Vintage Port from others? Among other characteristics, the fact that it comes from a single harvest – obviously, a harvest of extraordinary quality. The Vintage Ports on offer were made from grapes foot-trodden and fermented in granite lagares. There are three wines from different years: Quinta Vale D. Maria Vintage Porto 2015, Quinta Vale D. Maria Vintage Porto 2016, and Quinta Vale D. Maria Vintage Porto 2017.

Douro Premium Tasting
This tasting is an experience, a journey, and a challenge – a challenge to explore the contours and characteristics that distinguish wines made from old, rare vines from those made from grapes sourced from young vines, yet full of great character and complexity. In the first profile, we have the Vale D. Maria Vinha de Martim, a white wine. In the second, a true gem, the Quinta Vale D. Maria Vinhas Velhas, a red wine. To finish perfectly, a Vintage Port, the Quinta Vale D. Maria Vintage Porto 2017.
