Vale D. Maria
Very Old Tawny Porto Colheita 1969
Porto 1969
Aged for 50 years
This is the first wine from the Very Old Colheitas collection, the most valuable of Quinta Vale D. Maria. Produced from a single harvest, that of 1969, this wine carries the weight of a year that marked, in many ways, the history of the 21st century. As the world evolved, the Vale D. Maria Very Old Tawny Porto 1969 matured slowly, undergoing a transformation that is also reflected in its colour. With ageing, the colour of the Tawny Porto wine tends to evolve into shades of mahogany and amber due to gradual oxidation. Exposure to oxygen during maturation in wood, in contact with air through the small pores of the wooden casks, causes the wine to lose its original ruby intensity, acquiring a lighter and more complex tone. Only 673 bottles were produced, each one numbered. Every detail was carefully crafted by hand, from bottling to labelling.

The Vale D. Maria Very Old Tawny Porto Colheita 1969 developed elegant, concentrated, and delicate aromas, becoming intensely rich and fresh, with great persistence. Opulent on the nose, with a core of honey and butter caramel, fragrances of dried peaches and plums, along with a hint of mint and eucalyptus. It is a sweet wine, with a light touch of molasses, showcasing various fruits in a well-balanced ensemble. A rare and memorable experience, one that only time could provide.
